Course overview

Telehealth parent training looked like the answer to access problems, and then reality showed up: cameras off, sessions rescheduled three weeks in a row, homework that never gets tried. This guided discussion takes an honest look at adherence in telehealth ABA parent training and what practitioners can actually control.

You will walk through the variables that predict caregiver follow-through, how to structure a curriculum that survives a chaotic household, and how to write goals caregivers recognize as their own. Every section ends with a concrete adjustment you can make in your next session.

Learning objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define treatment adherence as it applies to telehealth caregiver training and describe how it is measured.
  • Identify at least four environmental and motivational variables that reduce caregiver follow-through during telehealth sessions.
  • Describe procedures for building a telehealth parent training curriculum that accommodates competing caregiver demands.
  • Apply strategies for collaboratively setting caregiver goals that increase buy-in and session attendance.
  • Evaluate adherence data to determine when to modify, fade, or discontinue a telehealth training component.

Intended audience

  • BCBAs and BCaBAs delivering caregiver training via telehealth
  • Clinical directors designing remote parent training curricula
  • RBTs and supervisees supporting remote caregiver coaching

RBTs may take this course for general professional learning, but this activity does not award BACB RBT PDUs unless specifically identified as an RBT professional-development event.
